How to Import Data from a Spreadsheet

Bulk-import customers, suppliers, invoices, bills, and expenses from a CSV or Excel file.

What this does

Lets you upload a CSV or Excel file to import multiple records at once — customers, suppliers, invoices, bills, expenses, or opening balances. This is the fastest way to get your historical data into Relentify when migrating from another system or spreadsheet.

When to use it

Use this when you are setting up Relentify for the first time and need to bring in existing records, or when you have a batch of new records to add that would take too long to enter one by one.

Step by step

  1. Go to Import from the main navigation
  2. Choose the type of data you want to import by clicking one of the tabs:
    • Customers — your customer contact list (required column: Name)
    • Suppliers — your supplier or vendor directory (required column: Name)
    • Sales Invoices — historical sales invoices, one row per invoice (required columns: Client Name, Due Date, Description, Unit Price)
    • Bills — supplier bills or purchase invoices (required columns: Supplier Name, Amount, Due Date)
    • Expenses — expense claims (required columns: Date, Description, Gross Amount)
    • Opening Balances — account balances when migrating from another system
  3. Click Download Template to get a spreadsheet with the correct column headings already filled in
  4. Fill in your data in the template — do not change the column headings
  5. Save the file as CSV or Excel (.xlsx)
  6. Click Choose File and select your completed file
  7. For Opening Balances, set the As of Date and tick the confirmation box if you are replacing a previous import
  8. Click Import — a progress bar shows as the records are processed
  9. Once complete, a summary shows how many records were imported and lists any rows that could not be processed (with the reason)
  10. Rows with errors are skipped — fix the highlighted issues in your spreadsheet and re-import those rows

Tip: Import in this order for best results: Customers and Suppliers first, then Invoices, Bills, and Expenses (which reference the customer/supplier records you just created).
