Setting Up Chat Triggers

Automatically send messages to visitors based on their behaviour.

What this does

Chat triggers automatically send a message to website visitors when specific conditions are met — like spending a certain amount of time on a page or visiting the pricing page.

When to use it

Use triggers to proactively engage visitors who show buying intent.

Step by step

  1. Go to Chat > Settings > Triggers
  2. Click + New Trigger
  3. Configure the conditions:
    • Page URL — trigger on specific pages (e.g. /pricing)
    • Time on Page — trigger after X seconds
    • Pages Viewed — trigger after visiting X pages
    • Returning Visitor — trigger for repeat visitors
  4. Write the Message to send
  5. Set Frequency — once per session or once per visitor
  6. Click Save

Tips

  • Don't over-trigger — one well-timed message is better than five interruptions
  • Test triggers by visiting your site in an incognito window
  • Monitor trigger performance in analytics to see which messages get responses
